Whether your veterinarian recommended us or you found us on your own: Welcome. You're in the right place.
When your vet says "there's not much more we can do," that's where we begin.
Your veterinarian made a smart call sending you here. Referring to a practice with focused expertise in rehabilitation and integrative medicine is one of the best things a vet can do for their patient. It means they care enough about your pet's outcome to bring in a team whose entire day is devoted to cases like yours.
And nobody knows your pet better than you. You're the one who notices the subtle limp after a long walk, the hesitation before jumping on the couch, the look in their eyes when something isn't right. That intuition matters here. It matters a lot.
We partner with you, your vet and anyone else you consider part of your pet's care team. If they're important to you and your pet's wellbeing, they're important to us. Our focus stays on the best outcomes for your pet, and we collaborate with an open mind to get there.

WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?
What's happening with your pet right now?
Find your situation below. Each path leads to more information and real next steps.
Pain That Won't Quit
"My pet is in pain, and medication alone isn't managing it.”
Or “I'd rather not rely on long-term medication if there are other options. I want to understand what else is out there."
Medications can be an important tool, and sometimes they're exactly the right choice. But they're not the only tool. We help you evaluate what's working, what isn't, and what alternatives might fit your pet's needs and your goals.
Surgery Is on the Table
"My pet may need surgery and I want to understand all the options, including whether rehab alone could avoid it.”
Or “surgery is already scheduled and I want my pet going in as strong as possible.”
Or “surgery already happened and recovery hasn't gone the way we hoped."
A Scary Diagnosis
"My pet was just diagnosed with something frightening: intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), degenerative myelopathy (DM), paralysis, nerve damage. I don't know what to expect, and I want to understand what's possible before making any big decisions."
My Best Friend Is Getting Old
"My senior pet is slowing down. Getting up takes longer, their back legs shake when they stand, they slip on hardwood floors, and stairs have become a real struggle. Sometimes they look like they're in pain or discomfort. They're not as sharp as they used to be, and food doesn't seem to interest them the way it once did. I don't want to just manage decline. I want their remaining time to be vibrant."

REAL RESULTS
Families who were exactly where you are right now.
Before: Completely paralyzed. Almost lost hope. After: Walking again in 2 months. No surgery.
"Heather helped my dog go from completely paralyzed to walking again without pain within 2 months! I had almost lost hope but Heather's care turned things around for my dog fast. I still go in monthly for maintenance and he has remained stable without surgery. I highly recommend IVDD pet parents to go see Heather to give them a chance at walking again."
—Brittany, Chester's mom · IVDD & Paralysis Recovery
Outcome: Med-free and pain-free
"River continues to receive laser, acupuncture as well as a variety of PT gym exercises... and she is absolutely THRIVING! She is med free and finally able to live life pain free."
— Jen, River's mom · Chronic Pain · Tripawd
Outcome: Life extended at age 14
"I brought my elderly Boston Terrier here for over 2 years until I had to put him to sleep a few months ago. The final stages of his life were filled with joy and activity because of the work that Heather did with him. At 14, we were going on long walks and playing because of the therapy, laser, and acupuncture treatments that helped him through his arthritis and aging joints. Ruff Day's compassionate, sensitive work with my fur son extended his life and his quality of life and I can't say enough good things about their protocols, at-home exercises, and understanding through all of the phases of a dog's life."
— Lars, Little Buddy's dad · Senior Care, Boston Terrier
"Pets Love It Here"
"When I pull into the parking lot, he starts talking to me and immediately wants to head inside for his appointment rather than visiting all the nearby bushes. It is obviously a wonderful and calming environment."
— Michelle, Porter's mom
"My dog Artemis is a tripod with trust issues, and it isn't easy for her to trust people due to trauma in her early life. She immediately warmed up to Heather, and felt safe and comfortable there."
— Jennifer, Artemis's mom
"After a few sessions both Gracie and I look forward to our weekly PT! Highly, highly recommend!"
— Gracie's mom
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
This isn't your typical vet visit.
75-Minute Root-Cause Consultations
Not a 10-minute visit with a quick prescription. We take the time to listen, assess deeply, and understand the full picture before recommending anything.
We're honest about expectations, too. We can go deep or we can go broad, but not both at once. Each visit builds on the last, focusing your time, money, and effort where the return is highest.
You're Part of the Care Team
We depend on you. Your at-home observations are essential. How your pet is moving, what activities have changed, the videos and photos you capture between visits. All of that shapes our decisions.
Together we develop a home practice of exercise, diet, and integrative care that fits your actual life and grows with your pet over time.
The Whole Picture, Not Just the Body
We take a biopsychosocial approach: we look at the whole picture, including the human side of living with a pet who has health issues.
When your pet is struggling, it weighs on you. When you're exhausted and worried, your pet feels it too. Most conventional practices don't have time to address that cycle. We do. We create the space to talk through those challenges so we can set both of you up for success.
Integrative Therapies Under One Roof
Acupuncture, therapeutic laser, shockwave, rehabilitation, and manual therapy. All guided by a veterinarian certified in rehabilitation, acupuncture, and natural nutrition.
We choose therapies based on what your pet actually needs. Not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
A Place Pets Actually Want to Visit
Our Pet Gym doesn't look, smell, or feel like a vet clinic. We use positive reinforcement, patient priming, and fear-free design so your pet feels safe enough to opt in to their own care.
But it goes further than comfort. Working with new people in a gym environment builds confidence and social engagement. It taps into playfulness, connection, and that sense of flow that's essential to healing. When pets feel safe enough to play, they heal faster.
We Work With Your Vet, Not Instead of Them
Your pet's whole care team stays connected. We request records before your visit, keep your veterinarian updated after every appointment, and coordinate with any specialists involved.
YOUR FIRST VISIT
What to expect at your 75-minute consultation
Step 1: We save you time before you walk in the door.
We request and review records from your veterinarian and any specialists ahead of your visit. You'll also receive prep materials covering how to prepare, what to expect, our terms of care, and information on the risks and benefits of therapies like acupuncture and laser.
Why this matters: When you arrive already informed, we skip the basics and go straight into the deeper assessment and treatment work. You get more out of your 75 minutes. It also means you're not processing unfamiliar medical information in the moment when you're already focused on your pet. You've had time to read, think, and come in with better questions.
Step 2: A thorough, unhurried assessment.
Your 75-minute consultation includes a full physical, neurological, and gait evaluation in a calm, fear-free environment. We also have a real conversation about your pet's history, your daily routine, and what you're hoping for.
Step 3: Clear answers and a custom plan.
We explain everything in plain language. What we found, what it means, and what we recommend. You'll understand the "why" behind every recommendation, and you'll have a voice in the plan.
Our focus: We zero in on the areas with the highest return on your investment of time, money, and effort. Not everything at once. The right things first.
Step 4: Treatment begins.
In the vast majority of cases, some form of treatment starts during your first visit. But what that looks like varies from pet to pet based on their specific needs.
For some, that means acupuncture, laser therapy, or manual therapy right away. For others, especially pets who need a little more time to feel safe, we focus on building trust first and send you home with a starter exercise program and access to our video library so you can begin guided work at home.
We won't rush it. We never start a therapy that isn't safe or appropriate, and we never push a pet past their comfort level. Building trust between everyone involved is part of the treatment. The only time we hold off is when there's a safety consideration or when moving forward would break the trust we need for everything that comes next.
No matter the starting point, every visit focuses on the highest return on investment that meets your goals and our commitment to extending healthspan and maximizing quality of life.
A note on expectations: It's tempting to want everything addressed in one visit, especially when your pet's situation feels overwhelming. We'll talk about everything that's on your mind, and together we'll figure out what to prioritize. Each visit uncovers the next step. Progress builds over time, and that's by design. Not because we're holding back, but because this is how lasting results happen.
YOUR CARE TEAM
The People Behind the Care
Dr. Heather Misener
DVM, CCRT, CVAT, CVNN · Co-Owner
Dr. Heather's path to integrative medicine started with her own dog, Ralphie, whose mysterious lameness no conventional vet could figure out. That experience, along with her own health journey through a system that treated symptoms instead of causes, drove her to build something different.
Today she focuses exclusively on complex pain and mobility conditions, bringing certifications in rehabilitation, acupuncture, and veterinary natural nutrition to every case. She sees the full picture of your pet's health and designs treatment plans that work with the body, not just against the symptoms. The approaches she recommends are ones she has tested and lived herself. That personal experience informs everything.
Adam Yoshida
Integrative Health Coach · Certified Canine Strength & Conditioning Coach (CSCC) · Practice Manager · Co-Owner
Adam brings a background in human movement science, connective tissue research, and science communication to create what no other veterinary practice offers: the Pet Gym environment.
As a Canine Strength and Conditioning Coach and Integrative Health Coach, he works alongside Dr. Heather inside every appointment. But his role goes beyond therapeutic exercise. Adam actively coaches pet parents through the human side of caring for a pet with health issues. He helps with the practical side: active listening, supplementing Heather's clinical recommendations with integrative health guidance, and empowering owners to become their pet's most effective advocate at home.
That combination — movement science, integrative health coaching, and a deep understanding of what it actually takes to care for a pet with health issues — is what he brings to every appointment.
