Physical Rehabilitation Manual Therapies

As a veterinary rehabilitation practitioner, my hands are my most valuable diagnostic and therapeutic tool.

Manual therapies are treatments that are applied to the pet directly by hand. It wasn’t until I received specialized training in veterinary rehabilitation that I developed a unique appreciation for just how important these therapies are in relieving pain and allowing better mobility! I use several of these manual techniques in every single therapeutic session with my patients:

  • Massage relieves sore muscles and reduce swelling after an injury

  • Trigger point release eases muscle tension and helps restore the blood supply to the affected muscle fibers. Trigger points are painful spots in muscles where blood supply has been closed off

  • Joint mobilizations and joint compressions soothe swollen and painful joints and can help improve range of motion

  • Spinal traction maneuvers improve nerve conduction and alleviate pain in patients with spinal conditions
