Acupuncture - an ancient art that science is starting to understand
Though small (about the thickness of a human hair), acupuncture needles are an effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions. Acupuncture relieves pain, manages stress and anxiety, reduces inflammation, and improves vitality. One of the most exciting ways for me to use acupuncture is to help restore neurological function in pets suffering from injuries or degenerative conditions.
During an acupuncture session, needles are inserted into specific points on the body. The needles stay in place anywhere from 10-25 minutes, yet results can last hours to days, and even weeks.
Most of my patients tolerate acupuncture surprisingly well, especially as trust is built between the patient and the practitioner. Most grow to associate acupuncture treatments with feeling better, and cats especially have been known to surprise myself and their owners with their uncharacteristic cooperation.
